Jan 01, 2016 I'm still using YNAB 4 for now, but I'm on a student license and have recently been using my laptop more than my desktop. I've tried to download the desktop app for YNAB 4 but the YNAB website seems to only link to the new, online version. If you're looking for an alternative to You Need a Budget, you're in the right place. I'm a fan of You Need a Budget because I've seen it evolve over the years. I remember YNAB4 when it was a software application you purchased. Honestly, this is a total waste of their engineering resources. When was the last time you opened your budget on a computer that wasn't connected to the Internet? Sure, it happens (on an airplane?) - but that is not compelling reason to build the app right now. They should focus on getting the YNAB web app to complete feature parity with YNAB 4. And just look at how much incredible work the community has done on the Chrome extension already!
Why waste time working on a desktop app that will just make it harder for you to keep feature parity across the platform? It doesn't make any sense to me. It feels like something they announced to make people stop complaining it was web only.
