My mother has a slightly early model of this washer (GWL11 - 10 yrs old) but it is basically the same. While it does an adequate job of washing and has more advanced features than most top loaders, it can never match a front-loader for cleaning ability and efficiency. Yes, it does have high speed spin. And, yes, it has the soapy water soak down of the clothes in a shower fashion at the beginning of the cycle, but if you put anything big in it, the agitator is still just pushing the clothes back and forth, not really immersing them in water. Watch a large sheet in the wash, it basically just sits there. It also saves water by putting in less. This also reduces the amount of 'slosh' (cleaning). A top loader can't do what a front loader does - gentle rotate clothes through the wash and rinse water many times regardless of load size or size of individual pieces. You can pack a front loader very full (packed full dry) and it still cleans the clothes well because the clothes still tumble when wet.This one also has some major drawbacks as others note:
1) Can't really do a hot wash. It pre-washes hot (shower feature) but the agitation cycle is cool to cold.
2) If you put in soap first in the center post with dry clothes or use fabric softener, it can (and has) stain clothes.
3) The agitation is poor unless very lightly loaded and high water level used (as with most top loaders).
I have not had repair problems other have had but this machine is lightly used - summer home (4 months/yr.), washer run about once a week. So, I'll wait until it breaks to replace it but I wouldn't buy one. If you love top loader and don't like bending down you can buy a front loader with a larger and higher door and get the best of both worlds.
