The UniFi Controller allows the administrator to instantly provision thousands of UniFi APs, map out networks, quickly. The UniFi ® Software-Defined Networking (SDN) platform is an end-to-end system of network devices across different locations — all controlled from a single interface. Intuitive and robust configuration. Control and monitoring. Local and cloud access.

After the rollout of the 5.10.xx controller software I started to see a lot of complaints on the Ubiquiti forums about the new 'WiFi Experience' column. I was annoyed by the column myself, because I believe it is useless eye candy that doesn't have a place in Enterprise or even SMB implementations. I was tempted to roll back my controllers, but I stuck with it and have decided that I am not suddenly having wide-spread WiFi Experience issues with all of my installs; I am simply seeing the results of poorly reported metrics.

For me, the true indicator of WiFi Experience is the number of trouble tickets and calls I get reporting problems with connectivity. Since rolling out 5.10.xx (Currently running 5.10.20 on all my controllers), I have had a reduction in complaints about connectivity and speed issues, despite a high number of false positives on the WiFi Experience column. I have decided to just turn off this column. I think Ubiquiti needs to add an option to turn off WiFi Experience reporting completely (rather than just hiding the column).

I've included an image from one of my controllers, showing the alarming red 0% WiFi Experience indicator on an Amazon tablet - despite signal strength being in the high 90's and the device successfully streaming over 800 MB of video over the past 24 hours. The drill-down detail shows the device is experiencing DHCP timeout issues. But it isn't. It's on an Active Directory network with the AD server handing out IP addresses. This device has a reserved IP, and I don't think the controller knows how to figure this out, so it is reporting it as a DHCP timeout error, giving the false impression that this user is having a bad WiFi Experience when in fact, she's not.

TL;DR: Ubiquiti WiFi Experience reporting is broken and should be an option that can be toggled off completely.
